Manchester United defender Phil Jones is looking forward to the ‘big’ games during their pre-season tour of the US.

Louis van Gaal’s squad are set to fly across to the US later this month for their pre-season tour and will take part in the International Champions Cup, which they won last summer.

The Red Devils will take on Mexican outfit Club America, Major League Soccer team San Jose Earthquakes, and the respective Spanish and French league champions Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain during the tour.

Jones is especially looking forward to taking on PSG and Barcelona because of the quality of the opposition and the competitive nature of the games.

Though he admits that the goal of the pre-season games is to get in shape for the long and arduous campaign ahead of them, the defender stressed that they will be looking to win against the likes of PSG and Barcelona regardless of the importance of those fixtures.

"Barcelona and PSG are top quality sides, we know the quality they’ve got, but I’m sure we’ll give as good as we get", Jones told MUTV.

"We’ve got to get up to sharpness quickly, that’s what pre-season is all about, but these are not just ordinary games.

“They’re big games that you want to play in and you want to win."

Manchester United will face Tottenham at Old Trafford in the opening weekend of the season and Van Gaal will want his squad to be in top shape ahead of that game.

Jones recently signed a new contract with Manchester United, which tied him down to the club at least until 2019.
