Young Icelandic striker Holmbert Fridjonsson will not be returning to Celtic this summer and is instead moving back to his homeland.

Fridjonsson spent last season on loan from Celtic at Danish giants Brondby, but despite impressing the Superliga club, did not do enough to persuade the side to keep him on permanently.

He is surplus to requirements at Celtic and now Icelandic outfit KR Reykjavik have confirmed that they have bagged the 22-year-old's signature on a deal which will run through until 2017.

KR announced: "Holmbert Fridjonsson has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with KR."

Fridjonsson will officially join KR when the Icelandic transfer window swings back open on 15th July.

In 2013, prior to his move to Celtic, Fridjonsson scored ten goals in 21 games in Iceland, form which attracted the Scottish champions.

Now he is heading back to his homeland to kick-start his career and earn regular first team football, with his spell at Celtic Park having not gone as planned.
