Manchester United have decided to lower their asking price for Real Madrid target David de Gea, according to Spanish daily AS.

With the Manchester United players slated to report for pre-season training next Monday, the transfer saga revolving Real Madrid and De Gea has reached a tipping point.

The Spaniard is keen to avoid the situation of going back to England for pre-season training after reportedly saying his farewells to Manchester United players and staff before his holidays.

Therefore, both Real Madrid and De Gea are desperate to conclude the deal soon and it has been claimed that Manchester United have taken a big step towards letting their goalkeeper go this summer.

The Red Devils were said to be asking for a fee of around €46m for a player whose contract runs out at the end of next season, but according to AS, they have decided to lower their asking price.

It has been claimed Manchester United’s current demand for De Gea is around €35m, a figure close to the amount Real Madrid are prepared to offer for the 24-year-old.

While Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal was said to be bullish about the De Gea saga, the Dutchman has softened over the last few days and wants his goalkeeping position sorted out before the club leave for their pre-season tour of the US later this month.

Manchester United also feel an amicable conclusion to De Gea’s move to Real Madrid could help them to secure Sergio Ramos’ signature from the Spanish giants too.
