Legendary former Poland goalkeeper Jan Tomaszewski has launched a stinging attack on Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, accusing him of deceiving the country's national team coach and at the same time ruining Wojciech Szczesny's chances of playing regularly for his country.

Szczesny's chances of regular first team football at Arsenal took a nosedive earlier this week when the Gunners completed the signing of Petr Cech from Chelsea.

The 33-year-old is expected to go straight in as Arsenal's number 1, ending Szcezsny's hopes of reclaiming the spot between the sticks he lost to David Ospina last season.

For Tomaszewski, Szczesny must have been left in pieces when he heard of Cech's signing.

"All Poles have suffered a blow to the face from Arsenal. I imagine that Szczesny must be devastated", Tomaszewski told Przeglad Sportowy.

"If Cech has signed a three-year contract, it means in reality the end of Wojciech's national team career.

"In my eyes he is still the first choice for our national team, but in the current situation, he will not get to play a game. That's a big loss for us, for he is feared in Europe."

Tomaszewski also says that Gunners boss Wenger has misled Poland's national team coach Adam Nawalka, who he says was assured by the Frenchman that Szczesny would soon again be playing regularly for Arsenal.

"Adam Nawalka told me he spoke to Wenger, who said that Wojciech had got sharper in training and would soon be playing again", the former goalkeeper explained.

"But it turned out to be one those things my aunt says at a birthday party. It had nothing to do with the truth.

"Wojciech spoke privately with the club management and decided to stay and fight for his place with David Ospina.

"And then they suddenly buy Cech."

Ospina has been linked with leaving Arsenal this summer, but given Cech's arrival, Szczesny too may consider his future at the Emirates Stadium.
