Talks are continuing between Benfica and Atletico Madrid over a potential switch for Nicolas Gaitan to the Vicente Calderon, according to Portuguese daily O Jogo.

Gaitan has been at the centre of a transfer storm this summer as he has repeatedly been linked with joining Louis van Gaal's Manchester United.

Speculation over a switch to Old Trafford was given a shot in the arm as recently as 25th June, when one of his representatives insisted that his client was waiting for the Red Devils to push through a deal.

But at present a move to Atletico Madrid is far more likely for the Argentine.

Benfica's president Luis Felipe Vieira met Atletico Madrid officials on Tuesday to continue talks about selling Gaitan to Los Rojiblancos.
