Cagliari have seen off interest from Leeds United in young Uruguayan striker Felipe Avenatti.

The tall front-man attracted admiring glances from a number of sides on the back of his impressive campaign with Ternana in Serie B last season.




Avenatti fielded interest from a whole host of Italian clubs, along with English Premier League side Aston Villa.

However, Cagliari have been desperate to sign him and their key competition came from a familiar face in Leeds owner Massimo Cellino.
 

 

But according to Italian daily La Nuova Sardegna, Cagliari have seen off Cellino's attempts to sign Avenatti.

Now Cagliari are hoping to complete the signing of the six foot five inch striker by Monday or Tuesday next week.

Cagliari want Avenatti to help spearhead their push for instant promotion to Serie A, having been relegated from the Italian top flight last term.
