Dundee United forward Nadir Ciftci has rejected an approach from English club Wigan Athletic, according to BBC Scotland.

Ciftci, who is reportedly being pursued by Scottish champions Celtic, has turned down an offer from English League One outfit Wigan, as he tries to engineer a move to Celtic Park.

His agent, former Celtic striker Pierre van Hooijdonk, has expressed the player’s desire for a Celtic move.

"Anyone would be interested [in Celtic] when you consider the size of the club", Van Hooijdonk was quoted as saying by BBC Scotland.

23-year-old Ciftci, who was the Terrors’ top scorer in all competitions last season, rejected his club’s offer of a contract extension last month and is out of contract in less than a year's time.

And both the player and his agent are ready to play the waiting game by not committing to another club.

"We will just wait and see what happens over the next few days and weeks”, Van Hooijdonk added.

The Dutchman, who spent two years with Celtic in the mid-1990s, is expecting an amicable solution to his client’s future and talked up their relationship with Dundee United, but feels the ball is in Ciftci’s court.

"Our relationship with Dundee United is a very good one and we want to keep it that way.

"At the end of the day the player always decides what happens in my opinion. But we are not having a big argument with Dundee United."
