The Netherlands’ new head coach Danny Blind has revealed he rejected an offer from Manchester United last year to remain with the national team.

Blind, who was confirmed as Guus Hiddink’s successor in the Netherlands job on Wednesday, admits he turned down an offer to join Louis van Gaal’s backroom staff at Manchester United, which he feels was “fantastic.”

“I had a fantastic offer from Manchester United”, Blind explained to Dutch daily the Algemeen Dagblad.

The 53-year-old former Dutch international defender has revealed the talk which swirled last year with the Old Trafford outfit about joining up with Van Gaal and co.

He believes his ambition for bigger things meant he rebuffed the Red Devils’ interest, instead choosing to stay with the national team.
