Recently departed Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has revealed that he had offers from a number of clubs across Europe, but decided to shun them in favour of joining Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy to face a new challenge.

The 35-year-old brought his 17-year long stay at Anfield to an end this summer after deciding to join the MLS side.

The midfielder is set to be presented to his new club's fans at half-time during this weekend's match against Toronto. He will officially don his new club's shirt in an open training session next Tuesday though, with his debut slated to be against San Jose Earthquakes on 17th July.

Ahead of the weekend's presentation the former Liverpool skipper took time to speak about what motivated him to take up this new challenge of joining a club outside Europe.

"I had some nice opportunities around Europe", Gerrard said in an interview with his club's official channel.

"But I wanted a completely fresh challenge, to come out of my comfort zone, live away from home and get a different life experience and choose a place where my family can enjoy themselves and settle."

Gerrard also spoke about his wish to claim that he did try something different by refusing to be stuck at the same place.

"When I retire from football in a few years time I want to say I did try something different and didn't stay in the same place – although I loved every minute of it."
