Lazio have competition in the race to sign Fabio Borini from Liverpool after West Ham joined the chase for the Italian's signature.

The Rome-based outfit have been keen on capturing Borini, although they have been hoping for Liverpool to provide a discount on the asking price slapped on the forward's head.

But Lazio's life has been complicated by West Ham showing interest in Borini, according to Italian daily Tuttosport.

Borini is expected to leave Liverpool this summer following a season of kicking his heels on the sidelines at Anfield.

He turned down moves to both QPR and Sunderland last summer, choosing to instead remain at Liverpool and fight for his place.

But Reds boss Brendan Rodgers regularly preferred other options, reducing the Italian to sporadic appearances.

Lazio can offer Borini the opportunity to play in the Champions League next season, something his current club Liverpool and suitors West Ham are unable to match.

Borini joined Liverpool in 2012 from Roma.
