Ex-Netherlands striker Roy Makaay has tipped compatriot and new Manchester United signing Memphis Depay to settle seamlessly at his new club.

Makaay believes the Red Devils’ Dutch contingent will help the youngster adapt to life at his new club. He feels manager Louis van Gaal played an important role in Depay joining the Old Trafford outfit.

“There will be some pressure on him because the pressure is always high in this kind of situation”, said the 40-year-old to the club’s official website.

“But he's from the same country as the coach and I understand the main reason Depay signed for United, instead of another club, was because Van Gaal is there.

"I think it's good that there's not just Van Gaal there as a coach but also [Robin] van Persie and [Daley] Blind to help Memphis adapt at the beginning and get used to English football."

Makaay talked up Depay’s potential to become a star and has praised the 21-year-old’s qualities in the attacking third.

"It won't be easy for him but he has the quality to become a good buy.

"He's a great player, a very attacking player with some nice touches, and he was top scorer in the Dutch league last season, of course”, added the former Bayern Munich striker.

Depay, who won the Eredivisie title with PSV Eindhoven last season, scored 28 goals for his former club. He racked up 22 league goals to top the scoring charts in the Eredivisie last season.

The youngster, who played under Van Gaal for the Netherlands in the 2014 World Cup, has been Manchester United’s only signing in the close season so far.
