Sunderland have completed the signing of full-back Adam Matthews from Celtic for a fee of £2m.

Celtic accepted an offer for Matthews from the Black Cats yesterday, after sealing the signature of Saidy Janko from Manchester United.

Sunderland have now moved quickly to wrap up the arrival of Matthews, confirming a £2m fee for the Wales international, who has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light.

And the arrival of the 24-year-old has left manager Dick Advocaat delighted.

The Dutchman told his club's official site: "We know that we need quality players to improve competition for places in the side, so Adam is a welcome addition to our squad and we are very pleased to welcome him to Sunderland."

Matthews joined Celtic in 2011 from Welsh giants Cardiff City and quickly set about playing his part in a winning Bhoys team.

The defender won four Scottish league titles at Celtic Park, along with making over 100 appearances for Ronny Deila's men.

Now he will look to cement a regular starting spot with Sunderland, who are aiming to kick on in the Premier League next term under Advocaat.
