West Ham are rapidly closing on the signature of Juventus defender Angel Ogbonna, though Everton have not yet given up hope of signing the player.

Juventus have agreed to sell Ogbonna for the right price this summer, something which has sent Everton and West Ham scrambling to secure his signature.

It is West Ham who are in the driving seat, with the Hammers now just one step away from signing the defender, according to Turin-based daily Tuttosport.

Juventus will scoop up a fee of €10m plus a potential further €2m in bonus payments for Ogbonna.

However, as West Ham try to put the finishing touches to the deal, Everton have not yet given up.

Regardless of who wins the race, it appears clear that Ogbonna will be playing his football in the Premier League next season.

The Italy international has found commanding a regular first team spot at Juventus to be tough and will be aiming for more minutes of game time in England.
