Atletico Madrid and Benfica are just €5m apart over a deal for Nicolas Gaitan, according to Portuguese outlet Sapo Desporto.

Gaitan has been consistently linked with a move to Manchester United throughout the summer, but despite a deal being claimed to be close, appears no nearer to heading to Old Trafford.

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone is keen to have Gaitan at the Vicente Calderon and high level talks have been held between the Spanish club and Benfica.

But while Atletico Madrid's offer stands at €30m, Benfica president Luis Felipe Vieira is insisting Gaitan's €35m buy-out clause is met.

Gaitan is fully aware of negotiations between Benfica and Atletico Madrid as he builds up to the new season with the Portuguese side, and is ready to leave for Spain if a breakthrough is made.
