Lazio are preparing to offer to take Fabio Borini on loan from Liverpool, with an option to buy at the end of next season included in the deal.

The Rome giants are hoping to snap up Borini to bolster their squad ahead of their participation in the Champions League next term, but at present have baulked at Liverpool's asking price for the Italian.

Instead Lazio are preparing to try their luck with a loan offer for the forward.

According to Italian daily Il Messaggero, Lazio will offer Liverpool a fee of between €500,000 and €1m to take Borini on loan for 2015/16.

The proposal will also include a purchase option set at between €4m and €5m.

Liverpool have been reluctant to loan out Borini and have rejected a number of loan proposals from Italian clubs over the course of the last year.

It remains to be seen whether the Reds will be willing to send the forward back to his homeland on, at first at least, a temporary basis.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers paid €13.3m to sign Borini from Roma in 2012.
