Manchester United have made an offer for Torino right-back Matteo Darmian, but the Serie A side view it as too low to accept.

The Red Devils have entered the race for the Italy defender's signature with real force today, threatening to derail Napoli's efforts to sign him.

Louis van Gaal's side have wasted no time in making an offer for Darmian and their bid is of a basic €12m plus a further €3m in potential bonus payments, according to Italian broadcaster Sky Italia.

The figure is considered too low for Torino, who value Darmian at the €20m mark.

The Serie A outfit are prepared to accept an initial offer below the €20m mark, but the bonus payment structure must be more substantial.
