Ilkay Gundogan may have hoped that all Borussia Dortmund fans would be happy at him signing a new contract, but he was booed at the team's season opening presentation today.

30,000 Dortmund fans turned out at Signal Iduna Park in 40 degree heat to welcome their heroes, but while goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller earned rapturous applause, Gundogan's arrival was met by boos and whistles.

The midfielder told Dortmund at the end of last season that he would not sign a new contract and wanted to be sold this summer.

He was strongly linked with Manchester United, amid speculation he had agreed personal terms with the Red Devils, amongst a number of other clubs.

Yet Gundogan performed a U-turn and agreed to put pen to paper on a new contract running until 2017.

He has still not won over a large section of Dortmund fans though, who are unhappy with his bid to leave the club.

Dortmund stood by Gundogan when he missed almost an entire season with a back injury in 2013/14, while last term his injury issues also interrupted his campaign.

Many Dortmund fans believe he owes the club a debt for standing by him and helping him back to full fitness.
