Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta has told Manchester United to prepare for failure in their efforts to sign Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid.

Iniesta is a firm fan of Ramos and rates him as one of the finest centre-backs in world football at present, something which reinforces his view that Los Blancos will not allow him to leave.

Manchester United are hoping to sign Ramos amid talk that the defender is unhappy about his contractual situation at the Bernabeu and has set his heart on moving to Old Trafford.

For Iniesta, who regularly locks horns with Ramos when Barcelona come face to face with Real Madrid, Los Blancos will not sell.

The Spanish midfielder was quoted as saying by Madrid-based daily Marca, at a Nike event: "I've always said that Ramos is one of the best centre-backs in the world.

"I don't think they'll let him go", Iniesta added.

Real Madrid snapped Ramos up from Sevilla in 2005 and he quickly impressed at the Bernabeu.

The defender's contract in the Spanish capital has another two years left to run.
