Atletico Madrid are offering to throw Argentina Under-20 international Angel Correa into a deal to sign Nicolas Gaitan from Benfica, according to Portuguese sports daily Record.

The Spanish giants have been in talks to sign Gaitan, who appears likely to end up at the Vicente Calderon eventually, despite continued links with Manchester United.

However, with Benfica's president Luis Felipe Vieira refusing to part with the Argentine for less than his €35m buy-out clause, an impasse has been reached.

Atletico Madrid do not want to go up to €35m and are looking at ways to convince Benfica to sell for a lower figure.

To that end they are ready to allow Correa to head to the Estadio da Luz as part of the transfer.

Los Rojiblancos snapped up Correa from Argentine outfit San Lorenzo, though his start at the club was delayed when a heart tumour was detected.

The 20-year-old officially linked up with Atletico Madrid in December last year and he has been compared to Manchester City's Sergio Aguero.

It remains to be seen whether Correa's inclusion in any offer will convince Benfica to accept less than €35m for Gaitan.
