Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu has suggested that Douglas Costa will have to improve to make the grade at Bayern Munich.

Lucescu sold Costa to Bayern Munich last week, with the Brazilian completing a big-money switch to the Allianz Arena to link up with Pep Guardiola's German champions.

For Lucescu, Costa will have a big fight on his hands to dislodge either Arjen Robben or Franck Ribery from the starting eleven, while he will also find the Bundesliga a tougher league to play in.

"I think at the moment Douglas is not yet strong enough for Bayern", the veteran Romanian tactician told German news agency SID.

"There [at Bayern Munich there] are Ribery and Robben, a different calibre. But Douglas can get in there and grow", he continued.

"He has to create quality, but the Bundesliga is a different kettle of fish."

Lucescu took Costa to Shakhtar Donetsk from Brazilian side Gremio in 2010.

He enjoyed a hugely successful time with the Miners, winning five Ukrainian Premier League titles, three Ukrainian Cups and three Ukrainian Super Cups.

Costa also has nine Brazil caps to his name.

Bayern Munich have paid €30m to sign him from Shakhtar Donetsk.
