Tottenham Hotspur striker Roberto Soldado’s agents have held talks with Villarreal over a transfer for their client this summer.

Spurs are believed to be ready to listen to offers for a striker who struggled for goals last season and is now firmly behind Harry Kane in the pecking order.

At 30, Soldado is not expected to upstage his younger strike partner and the club are keen to offload a player for whom they paid €30m to Valencia in 2013.

Galatasaray have been linked with a move for the forward but Soldado is believed to be keen to move back to Spain, where he scored 101 La Liga goals for four different clubs.

According to El Periodico Mediterraneo, the player’s representatives have been in talks with Villarreal about a proposed transfer to Spain for their client.

The Yellow Submarine are looking for a new forward for next season and Soldado has emerged as an option for the club this summer.

Spurs are said to be asking for a transfer fee of around €12m for a player who has scored just seven Premier League goals since joining the club two years back.

Soldado found the back of the net just five times in 40 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions last season and still has a contract until 2017.
