Wayne Rooney says he is delighted to be back in training with Manchester United.

Louis van Gaal's men had their first training session since returning from their summer holidays today and there was a new face amongst the group in summer signing Memphis Depay.

Manchester United are getting some early work under their belt before they fly out to the United States on 13th July for four matches in the International Champions Cup tournament.

And Rooney is pleased to be back on the training pitch with the Red Devils.

He took to social networking site Twitter to write: "Felt good to be back training with the lads today."

The striker sent the message to midfielder Michael Carrick, defender Phil Jones and new arrival Depay.

Manchester United finished fourth in the Premier League last season and as a result must navigate a playoff round in the Champions League to reach the group stage.

Following their four friendlies in the United States, the Red Devils are then next in action against Tottenham Hotspur in their Premier League opener.
