Benfica president Luis Felipe Vieira wants the future of Nicolas Gaitan to be resolved by the end of this week.

Gaitan's future at Benfica has been under the scanner throughout the summer with the Argentine being strongly inked with both Atletico Madrid and Manchester United.




Both clubs have had talks over Gaitan, but Atletico Madrid are at present the furthest down the line to a deal.

Benfica are involved in the International Champions Cup in North America later this month and kick off their tournament by taking on Paris Saint-Germain on 18th July.
 

 

And according to Portuguese sports daily O Jogo, Vieira wants Gaitan's future resolved by the end of the week as he seeks to avoid the team heading to America with a cloud hanging over a key player's future.

Atletico Madrid remain closest to signing Gaitan, but Manchester United are not out of the race for the midfielder.

And Vieira wants the club's coach to be able to look at filling the gap as soon as possible if the Argentine is to depart.

Gaitan joined Benfica from Boca Juniors in 2010.
