Leeds United have a new secret weapon when it comes to ensuring the perfect pitch throughout the season at Elland Road for the forthcoming 2015/16 campaign.

With an increasing number of elite sides using specialist rows of lights to help grow their pitches all year round and combat shade caused by steep stands, Leeds did not want to be left behind.

And a little help from German champions Bayern Munich has ensured that Whites groundsman Kiel Barratt has a top notch set of lights at his disposal.

Barratt explained to LUTV: "We suffer with the shade here a lot, especially down the West Stand and the South Stand, and they [the lights] help us grow grass all year round.

"They are a fantastic tool and basically all the Premier League clubs have got them now. We're just trying to keep the pitch as best as it can be for them to play on it so it's like summer all year round", the visibly excited groundsman continued.

"Our lights are from a company in Holland who supply them worldwide. And the lights we've got came from Bayern Munich. They upgraded theirs so we got their second hand ones."

Barratt says that the set of lights, most recently used to growing grass at the Allianz Arena, are already making their presence felt at Elland Road.

"They've been doing a fantastic job", the groundsman added.

Leeds' Elland Road pitch will also have to handle two Rugby World Cup games in the space of two days later this year, meaning Barratt needs all the help he can get.

It remains to be seen whether Leeds can take inspiration from Bayern Munich's old lights to play like the German champions.
