Atletico Madrid are eyeing Monaco midfielder Yannick Ferreira Carrasco as a replacement for the outgoing Arda Turan.

Diego Simeone’s side have been monitoring Benfica midfielder Nicolas Gaitan, but so far no headway has been made in their pursuit of the Argentine, leading them to look elsewhere to fill the void left by Turan, who has penned a five-year deal with Barcelona.

Ferreira Carrasco has been at Monaco since 2010 and was promoted to the first team in 2012.

Last season, he notched 52 appearances in all competitions, netting eight goals and providing 14 assists for his team-mates as the municipality outfit finished third in the league standings and narrowly bowed out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage after a defeat to eventual runners-up Juventus.

Atletico Madrid have negotiated for the Belgian with Moncao, and their sporting director, Luis Campos, has said that Ferreira Carrasco will head to pre-season with Leonardo Jardim’s side, but his future remains uncertain.

"For now he is our player and he will do the pre-season with us”, Campos was quoted as saying by Madrid-based daily Marca.

"You'll see, you never know.”

Through the course of his career at the Stade Louis II, Ferreira Carrasco has made over 100 appearances for the Monaco first team.
