Cagliari have been holding talks with Felipe Avenatti's agent this evening in a bid to thrash out an agreement to take the Uruguayan striker to the club.

Avenatti is currently under contract to Ternana, but has been hot property in the summer transfer window amid links with a number of clubs.




The six foot, five inch front-man has been linked with Leeds United, considered to be Cagliari's most serious competitors for his signature, while Aston Villa were also mooted to be keen.

But Cagliari are racing to sign the Uruguayan and according to Sky Italia have been meeting with the player's agent this evening.
 

 

Cagliari want to sign Avenatti in order that he can spearhead their push for instant promotion back to Serie A.

The Italian side, who used to be owned by Leeds' current owner Massimo Cellino, are hopeful of finding common ground with Avenatti's agent.

The highly rated 22-year-old scored 13 goals in all competitions for Ternana last season.
