Toby Alderweireld has now joined Tottenham Hotspur from Atletico Madrid, according to Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws.

It was reported earlier today that the defender had finished his medical with the White Hart Lane outfit, who had an offer for his services accepted earlier this week by Atletico Madrid.

That angered Southampton, the club at which Alderweireld was on loan last season, and who thought they had an option to sign him from the Spaniards.

But Spurs jumped in and Alderweireld is now a Tottenham player.

The defender will hand Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino an extra option at the back as the Argentine looks to plot a top four finish for his side next season.
