Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes has rejected an offer from Spanish La Liga side Valencia to join them this summer, preferring to fight for a starting spot at Old Trafford, according to Spanish daily AS.

Valdes landed at the Manchester giants in January this year, but with David de Gea ahead of him in the pecking order, he struggled to get regular first team action under manager Louis van Gaal.

By the end of the 2014/15 campaign, the Catalan had two first team appearances to his name. And his first and only start was during Manchester United’s final game of the league campaign.

Valencia are keen on adding the former Barcelona custodian to their ranks as they attempt to challenge for a top four spot in the league and also attempt to go far in the Champions League.

But Valdes has rejected the advances of the Spanish side, preferring to slog it out at Manchester United as they are grappling with the possibility of losing De Gea to Real Madrid.

The Madrid-born goalkeeper has been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu all summer and in the prevailing circumstances, Valdes has decided to stay put at the club that showed faith in him while he was free agent earlier this year.

If De Gea does indeed move to Madrid, Valdes would be in contention for a starting spot at Manchester United next season.
