Atletico Madrid have confirmed that full-back Javier Manquillo will not remain with Liverpool for next season as they look for regular first team football for the 21-year-old.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers snapped up the young Spaniard on a two-year loan deal from Atletico Madrid last summer, with an option to make the agreement permanent.

However, Atletico Madrid have confirmed that Manquillo will play elsewhere next season after deeming him not to be receiving enough playing time at Anfield.

The Spanish side announced: "Javier Manquillo will not fulfil his second season on loan with Liverpool.

"The player and Atletico de Madrid decided that the winger from Madrid would go to Anfield’s club for two seasons to enjoy the necessary minutes to continue growing football-wise", they added.

"However, in this first season with the 'Reds', the defender has not had all the minutes he and our club consider necessary for that purpose of accumulating experiences in his sports growth, so by mutual consent, it has been decided that he will not follow under the discipline of the English team."

Atletico Madrid have confirmed the decision was mutual, with Liverpool agreeing that Manquillo would be better served by heading elsewhere.

The young defender arrived at Anfield highly rated and was tipped to play a key role under Rodgers.

But he struggled to carve out a regular first team spot under the Northern Irishman and is now set to be sent out on loan elsewhere by Atletico Madrid.
