Tottenham Hotspur starlet Harry Winks is delighted to have penned a new contract with the Lilywhites that will see him at White Hart Lane until the summer of 2018, with an option for a further year.

Winks played 18 matches for the Spurs’ Under-21 side and contributed two goals to their cause as they finished ninth in the Under-21 Premier League Division 1 standings.

He also made a solitary first team appearance for Mauricio Pochettino’s side during their 1-0 win over FK Partizan in a Europa League clash in November last year.

The 19-year-old has been handed a new contract for his performances and he is elated with the development and is eager to work hard to prove himself.

“I was one, maybe two weeks into my holiday and relaxing in Mexico when I got the call to say that the club was offering me a new contract – as you can imagine, it was great to hear that news”, he told his club’s site.

“I was over the moon when I was told. It didn’t quite sink in straight away, but when everything settled down again I was delighted.

“For me, it’s just about taking it a step at a time, month-by-month. It’s fantastic to sign a new contract now, but I’ve still got a long way to go.

“I need to keep working hard and try to prove myself every day.”

Tottenham Hotspur ended their last campaign in fifth and thereby missed out on Champions League qualification as a consequence. Pochettino will be eager to guide his side to a top four finish next term.
