PSV Eindhoven captain Georginio Wijnaldum has refused to dwell on the speculation linking him with a move to Newcastle United.

The Dutch captain has been previously linked with a move to England, with Manchester United and Arsenal touted to be his suitors.

However, Steve McClaren is said to be leading Newcastle United pursuit of the PSV skipper this summer and the club are reportedly ready to make an offer for him this week.

Despite all the speculation surrounding his future at PSV, Wijnaldum refused to add too much fuel to it and declined to react to the rumours of Newcastle’s interest.

He stressed that the Magpies are yet to make contact with either the club or his agent, so he feels there is no point in discussing a hypothetical switch to Tyneside.

Speaking to FOX Sports, the Dutch international said: “As long as there is nothing concrete, I am not going to think about it.

“Are they a good club for me? I do not know as there is nothing concrete. I need to talk to them before I can say whether they are good for me.

“As long as there is no contact, I cannot say whether the transfer will benefit me.”

While PSV are reluctant to lose their skipper, it has been rumoured that a fee of around €20m should do the trick for Newcastle in their chase for Wijnaldum.

He still has three years left on his contract with the Dutch outfit.
