Belgium international Toby Alderweireld has undertaken a medical with Tottenham Hotspur ahead of a move to White Hart Lane, according to Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws.

It has been claimed that Mauricio Pochettino's men have agreed a fee with Atletico Madrid to sign the centre-back this summer and matters are now speeding ahead.

Alderweireld spent last season on loan in the Premier League, playing under Ronald Koeman at Southampton.

The Saints have been keen to keep hold of the former Ajax man, but Spurs have stolen in to beat them to the defender.

Southampton have been unhappy with Atletico Madrid for accepting an offer from Spurs, but the Spanish side believe as Alderweireld's loan at St. Mary's had expired, the Saints' clause relating to the player's purchase does not apply.
