Watford have enquired about the possibility of signing Seydou Doumbia from Roma this summer, according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Ivorian forward was linked with a move to Liverpool before he agreed to join the Giallorossi in the January transfer window from CSKA Moscow.

However, the forward has failed to hit the ground running in Italy and scored just twice in 14 appearances for Rudi Garcia’s side in the latter half of last season.

And another English club in the form of Premier League new boys Watford are claimed to be keen to sign the forward this summer.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Hornets have contacted Roma about the possibility of signing the Ivorian forward ahead of the new season.

Roma are claimed to be ready to part with the player on an initial loan deal, but are keen to insert a mandatory purchase option in the agreement worth €13m.

While Watford are ready to sign him on an initial loan agreement, they only want to reserve an option to make the move permanent for Doumbia, based on his performances at Vicarage Road.

While the negotiations between the clubs are expected to stretch into the next few days, the Roma hierarchy are keen to sell Doumbia before they embark on their pre-season tour of Australia next week.
