Atletico Madrid forward Borja Baston is nearing a loan move to Malaga this summer, according to Madrid-based daily AS.

Baston was on loan at Real Zaragoza last season and netted 23 goals for the Segunda Division side to help them to a sixth place league finish.

The youngster is a product of the Atletico Madrid youth academy – the club he joined in 1996. He was promoted to the first team in 2010, but has struggled for regular action with the senior side.

He has had loan spells with Real Murcia, Huesca and Deportivo La Coruna prior to his stint with Real Zaragoza last season.

His success at La Romareda has attracted attention of Malaga and newly-promoted Las Palmas and the two sides are eager to land the forward.

However, Baston is thought to favour a move to La Rosaleda, thereby giving the Andalusian side an advantage in his chase.

The 22-year-old is on considerable wages, which is proving to be a sticking point between the two sides thus far.

Baston has a solitary first team appearance for Atletico Madrid to his name.
