Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil feels Lukas Podolski needs the support of his team-mates and confidence to get find his touch at his new club Galatasaray.

After spending most of the first half of last season warming the bench at Arsenal, the forward would have been hoping to rekindle his career at Inter Milan when he joined the club in January on a loan deal.

However, he struggled to settle down at Inter and the club decided against making his loan move, permanent this summer.

The Germany international finally agreed a permanent switch to Galatasaray earlier in the summer and his friend and former Arsenal colleague Ozil has wished him luck for his future in Turkey.

Speaking to German television channel Sport1, Ozil said: “Lukas has had a tough time.

“That is why I am happy for him. He is a very good friend of mine and I wish him well for the future.”

The 26-year-old feels Podolski will enjoy the Turkish league and should do well for Galatasaray.

While Ozil doesn’t believe Podolski will find it hard to settle in Turkey, he stressed that his friend needs to have the support and the confidence of his team-mates to find his goalscoring touch with his new club.

“The Super Lig is very interesting and Galatasaray need a player like him in their team.

“He will have no problems there and I am happy Lukas has moved there but he needs the players’ confidence and game time to have an impact.

“He needs confidence to be a goal threat.”
