Sunderland have completed the signing of defender Younes Kaboul from Tottenham Hotspur.

The Frenchman has put pen to paper on a four-year contract with the Stadium of Light club and becomes boss Dick Advocaat's latest signing as the Dutchman bids to shape a side to steer clear of relegation worries next season.

Kaboul made his Tottenham debut against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in 2007 and is now set to ply his trade at the ground week in, week out.

The centre-back has been quick to express his delight at the move to Sunderland and told his new club's official site: "It is an honour and I’m delighted to join Sunderland.

"Everything went quickly but I’m very happy to be here and it is a good opportunity for me, so I can’t wait to meet up with my new team-mates and for the first day against Leicester City", Kaboul added.

The former Portsmouth defender has promised to give his all for the Black Cats every time he steps onto the pitch. And he has urged the fans to stand by the team through thick and thin.

"I will give the maximum every time I play and have no regrets by giving everything in each game, of course a season is very long and you will have ups and downs but the most important thing is to stick together with the fans and the team."

The 29-year-old made a total of 141 appearances for Tottenham over the course of two spells at White Hart Lane.

His contract with Spurs had been due to run out next summer.
