Napoli are considering making a move for Cagliari defender Davide Astori, who is also a target for Everton and Sunderland.

The Italian centre-half spent the last season on loan at Roma and made 30 appearances for a team which finished second in the league table behind champions Juventus.

However, it was not enough to convince the Giallorossi to make his move permanent and he has returned to his parent club Cagliari this summer.

But the 28-year-old is not keen to play in the second tier of Italian football and is believed to be ready to make a move away from the club before the season starts next month.

According to Tuttosport, Napoli are considering making an offer for Astori as they look to shore up their defence for the season ahead.

The Naples-based club are in the market for defenders and the 28-year-old features prominently on their shortlist of targets, which also includes Barcelona’s Marc Bartra.

However, they could face stiff competition for Astori’s signature from the Premier League duo of Sunderland and Everton, who are also interested in the Cagliari centre-half.

Bundesliga outfit Schalke has also been linked with a move for the Italy international defender.

His contract with Cagliari runs until the summer of 2017.
