Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has welcomed the Magpies’ new signing Aleksandar Mitrovic, adding that if he scores goals for the club the fans will adore him.

Mitrovic, who was also linked with reigning Premier League champions Chelsea, has landed at Newcastle from Belgian side Anderlecht.




The Serbia international contributed 27 goals in all competitions for Anderlecht as they finished third in the Belgian Pro League last season.

Shearer, who had a ten-year stint with Newcastle United and is adored by the club faithful for his goalscoring feats, has welcomed the Serbian to St James' Park.

Mitrovic had a two-year stint with Anderlecht, the club he joined in the summer of 2013 from FK Partizan. He went on to score 43 goals across all competitions for the club.

The 20-year-old has also earned 13 international caps for the Serbia national team and has a solitary goal to his credit.

Mitrovic will be eager to help Steve McClaren’s side improve upon their 15th placed league finish from last season as they prepare for the next campaign.
