Liverpool are stepping up on their interest in Barcelona forward Pedro Rodriguez, who is now the subject of serious interest from fierce rivals Manchester United.

Pedro is assessing his future at the Camp Nou following limited game time last term and little prospect of his situation improving in the forthcoming campaign, given competition from Neymar, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.

Manchester United are claimed to be putting together a bid worth €30m to sign Pedro, who is currently with his team in the United States.

Liverpool have also been linked with the Spaniard and according to Spanish daily El Mundo Deportivo, they are now accelerating their interest in Pedro.

The Reds have just banked a hefty fee from selling Raheem Sterling to Manchester City and Pedro has been mooted as a replacement for the England international.

However, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool can successfully go toe-to-toe with Manchester United, especially after losing out on Memphis Depay to the Red Devils earlier this summer.

Louis van Gaal's men can also offer Pedro the Champions League football which would be missing with a move to Anfield.
