Barcelona are considering a move for Monaco defender Aymen Abdennour, according to French sports daily L’Equipe.

Abdennour has been linked with several European giants this summer, including AC Milan, Liverpool and Atletico Madrid.

But the centre-back's agent met with Barcelona hierarchy yesterday with a view to work out a move to the Catalan outfit.

Barcelona are currently reeling under a FIFA-imposed two-transfer window ban that prevents the club from registering new player until the sanction is lifted next year.

As a result, any new signings will be not be able to play until 2016. If Abdennour switches Monaco for Barcelona, he will have to wait until next year before he makes his club debut.

In the prevailing circumstances, if the transfer goes through, the centre-back could be loaned back to Monaco for six months before he returns to the Camp Nou in January.

The 26-year-old joined Monaco last summer and went on make 26 appearances across all competitions for the principality outfit.

He has also earned 41 caps for the Tunisia national team, scoring once in the process.
