West Brom boss Tony Pulis is hoping that his side can win the race for former Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby, dubbing the Frenchman a "top, top player".

Diaby is available on a free transfer following his release by Arsenal at the end of last season, injury troubles having dogged his spell at the Emirates Stadium, with only two appearances to his name in the last two campaigns.

He is wanted by French side Marseille, who have been in discussions with the player's representatives, while MLS side FC Dallas are also an option.

But Pulis is hopeful that the 29-year-old, who has now had a medical with West Brom, will choose to continue his career with the Baggies.

"Diaby came in, he had his medical yesterday. We've made him an offer and we shall see", the former Stoke City manager told his club's site.

"The big thing with Abou is getting him fit and having the confidence from the medical team to do that.

"He is a top player and I mean he is a top, top player.

"We've had a look and we think there are things he can do to improve his chances of playing 30 Premier League games and we're confident we can help him do that.

"Whether he accepts that and the ethos of the football club we'll wait and see."

Diaby underwent his medical at West Brom's training ground on Friday and is now mulling over his options as he looks to take the next step in his career following his exit from Arsenal.
