Newcastle United have confirmed that they will sign Chancel Mbemba from Anderlecht subject to the defender being granted a work permit.

The Magpies have thrashed out a fee with Anderlecht for the highly rated young defender, while Mbemba has also agreed personal terms with the Premier League side ahead of a switch.

However, Newcastle face a wait to discover whether Mbemba will be granted a work permit as the English Football Association cannot hold a hearing until next Thursday.

The 20-year-old was born in the Congo and represents the African nation at international level, having made 17 appearances for his country since making his debut.

Congo are currently ranked 60 in the world rankings by FIFA.
