Arsenal skipper Mikel Arteta feels that his team are bearing the fruits of having worked on building cohesion over the course of time.

The Gunners lifted their second trophy of pre-season in the form of the Emirates Cup, as they beat German outfit Wolfsburg in their last game of the tournament yesterday; they won the Barclays Asia Trophy earlier this summer.

Arteta, who was handed over the trophy as the club skipper, was delighted to see the synchronised way his side performed, which he believes is the outcome of being together for a while.

There is also a kind of togetherness among the fans and the players and a united feeling of making things possible, which the 33-year-old is happy to see.

“We have been together a while now and we have this belief now that we are capable of achieving something important”, Arteta told his club's official website.

“It took some time to build this cohesion, this momentum.

“I think the crowd is feeling much closer to the team at the moment and together we can make it."

The midfielder also struck an optimistic note about the overall progress his team have made during pre-season.

“I think pre-season has been good. The tour in Singapore was great as well, probably the best we have had.

“Here, the opponents were tough but we managed to play well and win both games."

Arsenal, the defending FA Cup winners, will take on league champions Chelsea in the season opening Community Shield next Sunday.
