Arsenal youngster Chuba Akpom is hoping to get more first team action for the Gunners after hearing that the club are not at present chasing another striker.

Akpom, who made only seven senior appearances for Arsenal last season, has featured prominently in the Gunners’ pre-season friendlies and scored a hat-trick against a Singapore Select XI in the Barclays Asia Trophy earlier this month.

And the 19-year-old is pleased with manager Arsene Wenger’s confidence in him and his word that Arsenal are not on the trail of a new striker.

“The main thing for me is for a manager to have confidence and faith in me so for the manager to say that he isn't after another striker is good”, Akpom was quoted as saying by ITV.

However, the youngster is determined to work hard and give his all to cement a first team place as he feels there is no dearth of good strikers at Arsenal already.

“But the hard work doesn't stop there it means you have to maintain a place and there are a lot of good strikers and goals in the team so hopefully his season I can give it my all and be involved in the team”, he added.

Akpom spent the second half of the 2014/15 season on a short loan spell at Championship outfit Nottingham Forest.

He played seven times in the Championship for Nottingham Forest in the two-month long spell.
