Marseille are confident of completing the signing of former Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby later today.

Arsenal released Diaby at the end of last season following the expiry of his contract at the Emirates Stadium, the midfielder having only managed to play two games in the last two years due to continuing injury issues.

He has had a medical with Premier League outfit West Brom and been offered a deal with the Baggies, but it is Marseille who are in the driving seat.

According to French daily La Provence, Diaby could well sign for the Ligue 1 giants later today, along with Facundo Roncaglia.

Diaby will join on a free transfer and sign a contract with a low basic weekly wage, but significant bonuses built into the deal for every game he plays.

Marseille have insisted on a pay-as-you-play style deal in order to limit the risks of signing the 29-year-old midfielder, who has been plagued by injury problems.

Diaby was dubbed a "top, top player" by West Brom boss Tony Pulis yesterday, but the midfielder now looks set to leave the Baggies manager disappointed by choosing to continue his career back in his homeland of France.
