Former Barcelona winger Ibrahim Afellay is close to signing for Stoke City, according to the BBC.

Afellay, who is a free agent after his contract with the Spanish giants ended this summer, is having a medical at the Britannia Stadium and will be one of a number of ex-Barcelona players at the Premier League outfit.

The 29-year-old joined Barcelona in 2011 from Eredivisie outfit PSV Eindhoven, where he spent his formative years and made his professional debut in 2004 as a 17-year-old.

He will join Bojan Krkic, Marc Muniesa and fellow summer signing Moha El Ouriachi as the ex-Barcelona players in the Potters squad and will become manager Mark Hughes’ eighth signing of the summer.

Afellay failed to cement his place as a first team regular at Barcelona which resulted in two season-long loan moves after his arrival at the Camp Nou. He played 35 times for the Catalan outfit, scoring two goals.
