West Ham have snapped up young defender George Dobson from London rivals Arsenal.

The 17-year-old was captain of Arsenal's Under-18 side last term and also competed in the UEFA Youth League for Arsene Wenger's men.

Now though Dobson has chosen to make the move across London to Upton Park and, as a boyhood West Ham fan, is delighted at the chance to turn out for the Hammers.

Dobson believes the move comes at the right time to provide a platform for the next stage of his career development.

The young defender explained to West Ham's site: "I am over the moon to have signed and have been a West Ham fan since I was five-years-of -age and this is a surreal moment. Putting pen to paper is a dream come true for me.

"I had a great ten-years with Arsenal and they helped me as a footballer and as a person. But the time is right to move and I cannot wait to get started.

"I give 100 per cent every time I put the shirt on and I will give everything for the team", the promising defender concluded.

Dobson is now aiming to impress with West Ham's youth teams and catch senior side boss Slaven Bilic's eye ahead of an eventual breakthrough to the first team at Upton Park.
