Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes goalkeeper Petr Cech’s peak years are ahead of him despite already being at the top of the game.

Wenger signed the Czech goalkeeper from Chelsea this summer and the Frenchman is of the opinion there is still room for improvement for the 33-year-old, and believes Cech is at an age where goalkeepers can be at their prime.

“Petr Cech was already at the top but I believe that you can never deny that you can improve”, Wenger said to his club’s official website.

“He’s at the stage of his career, between 33 and 37, where a goalkeeper can be at his peak and he has the desire [to do that].”

The 65-year-old feels Cech’s experience and desire to stay at the top will help him keep improving as a player, which he believes is not down to different training methods.

“I don’t think it [improving] is down to different training methods, it’s just down to him to keep at the top physically and with his experience he will always improve”, added Wenger.

Cech, who joined the Gunners last month, will be in contention to make his first competitive appearance for Arsenal against his former employers in the FA Community Shield this Sunday.

The goalkeeper made his Gunners debut against Everton in a pre-season friendly earlier this month. He played the full ninety minutes in his side’s Emirates Cup win over Wolfsburg on Sunday.
