Aston Villa are close to reaching an agreement with Nantes for the signature of Tottenham Hotspur linked defensive midfielder Jordan Veretout.

A product of Nantes’ youth academy, the 22-year-old has progressed through the ranks to establish himself as one of the certain starters in Michel Der Zakarian’s team.




The defensive midfielder was one of the lynchpins of the Nantes team that finished 14th in Ligue 1 last season and his performances have brought the prying eyes of Villa across the English Channel.

The Premier League team have taken note of the impressive French Under-21 international and have moved in quickly in their pursuit of Veretout.
 


With Tottenham also interested in the player, Villa have stepped up their ante to take Veretout to England and according to L’Equipe, the Villans are close to agreeing a deal with Nantes.

Aston Villa have already signed Jordan Amavi and Jordan Ayew from Ligue 1 sides this summer and are hoping to get another deal over the line from France in the form of Veretout.

The 22-year-old made 40 appearances in all competitions for Nantes last season and still has two years left on his contract with the club.
