Leeds United midfielder Alex Mowatt believes the Whites’ pre-season training under the new regime of Uwe Rosler has started to pay dividends.

The Yorkshire-based club have failed to win any of their four pre-season friendlies over the summer, but Mowatt feels the club’s pre-season training has started to pay off.

Leeds suffered back-to-back 2-1 defeats to German opponents Eintracht Frankfurt and Hoffenheim in their pre-season tour of Austria and Norway, but the 20-year-old has remained upbeat over the progress of his side under Rosler, who was appointed as the Leeds manager in May.

"We haven’t been under the gaffer for that long but I think our training is starting to pay off in the games”, Mowatt said to his club’s official website.

Mowatt has talked up the improvement in fitness levels of the Leeds players and feels the high pressing style of football under Rosler will work better once the players get fitter.

"Everyone’s fitness is getting better and when we’re fitter the high-press game will work better”, he added.

The young midfielder, who swept all individual honours at the Elland Road club last season, will be hoping to help the Whites to promotion in 2015/16, having ended the previous campaign in a disappointing 15th place.

Leeds will host Premier League club Everton at Elland Road this Saturday for their final pre-season friendly before they kick their new season off against Burnley the following weekend.
